Take Part - Northern School of Contemporary Dance

About Take Part

The Learning & Participation team is central to NSCD’s mission to make dance accessible, inclusive, and impactful. Our work supports the school’s wider vision by offering meaningful opportunities for people of all ages to engage with dance—whether for enjoyment, education, or creative development.

Either in our studios, your school, your organisation, or your local community, we’ll help you find the right opportunity to get involved.

NSCD is committed to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults and requires that all staff (permanent or freelance) and volunteers demonstrate this commitment in every aspect of their work. Read more

What We Offer

We run a wide range of activities to suit all ages, levels, and interests:

  • Children & Young People – From fun and creative early years sessions to advanced training through our Centre for Advanced Training (CAT), we support young dancers to grow in skill, confidence, and creativity.
  • Adults – Whether you’re brand new to dance or returning after a break, our weekly adult classes offer a friendly and supportive space to move, express yourself, and stay active.
  • Community Engagement & Partnerships – Through our outreach and NSCD+ partnership model, we collaborate with schools, community groups, and organisations across Leeds, Yorkshire, and the wider North. Together, we deliver a year-round programme including curriculum-based sessions, enrichment activities, masterclasses, and dance intensives—bringing high-quality dance experiences into education and community settings.
  • Riley Theatre & Riley Theatre Reach – Our work is closely linked to Riley Theatre, NSCD’s on-site performance venue. Through Riley Theatre Reach, we connect participants with professional artists, touring companies, and live performances—bridging the gap between dance education, performance, and community engagement.
  • Holiday Intensives & Residencies – During Easter and summer, we run exciting short (1–2 day) intensives and longer (4–5 day) residencies. These offer participants the chance to work with professional artists and experience high-quality, creative practice.
